rainy day

Lovely prints by Matte Stephens, 'cat bird' and 'happy cloud'.

Rain forecast for the whole weekend, today has been showers all morning. A good opportunity to stay in and catch up at home. I hope summer show's a ray or two in July.

Cozy days in make me think of baking, warm bread from the oven. smitten kitchen's last of the loafing and beaming, bewitching breads are an inspiration to get some ingredients in.

Bloesem's 'knitting spree' weekend read is the essence of all things cozy at home. Full of great knitting ideas and suppliers.

I would like both the pretty books;  Pies and In the Mood for Food. Homely titles with delicious ideas.

listen

More avian inspiration. Mumm-ra, 'She's Got You High' single artwork. I can not find out who created the artwork, but I love it! Great web site with more illustration.

New Magnolia print by sugarloop. Wonderful.

Pumpkin pasta with rosemary. Not seasonal, but a favourite.

rule below

Captured at my friends allotment on Good Friday or 'Great Friday' as it was refered to by one of the children.

Here is the first of my weekly posts, a better way; making more of these light evenings and appreciating the sunsets. Most, not all of the blossom has blown away now and I am amazed how leaves have grown since last week.

I am drawing a metaphorical line under random regular posting and looking to begin more thoughtful mid week posts, a small routine in a chaotic life.

Today I bought the book, hinted about last Tuesday. The Happy Campers is a fantastic book, which brightened a double decker bus ride home. Happiness on the printed page. Images from the website and all the illustration is by co-author Kat Heyes, also Kat's blog.

More inspiration discovered from illustrator Hennie Haworth. I love the techniques combined to make such striking images, here are a selection of pieces.

I discovered Hennie Haworth illustrated an article for the Guardian G2, in November 2006. The on-line article makes an amusing read about organic vegetable boxes and includes a couple of recipes.

whimsicality

Moomin's taking tea, perhaps Baklava with Rose Water & Tea Granita. Just because Monday's can be a bit too serious sometimes.

floral outline

Notebooks, badges and a postcard from Jill Bliss. There is a lot more to see at Jill Bliss' website, including a blog and a link to her blissen shop. A beautifully whimsical style and full of floral inspiration.

Equally inspired by port2port's new photo & print project.

Herbs spring to mind from the botanical illustration and the photograph of the cold frame - Potato-parsley Scones. Once a favourite of mine when I could buy Parsley Scones from the Salisbury W.I. market. I need to compare this recipe to my memory of them.

ode to a tree

Egg Press

Beci Orpin

Beautiful illustrations, one letterpressed and the other cut from wood, each credited.

A sad day, the very high winds pulled over one of the majestic London Plane trees in Gray's Inn Gardens today. I will miss admiring the boughs, bark texture and seeking the cool shade in the summer.

The weather has been mad this year, this tree falling has made me think even more deeply about how humanity is screwing up the planet irreversibly. Instead of a recipe, I think this is a good read Alt Guide: Sustainability and Eating Locally.
